Small Town, Big Connections
At my photography business, I truly believe that connecting with clients is one of the most important parts of the process. When you fill out the contact form on my website, I always make it a point to call you. It's my way of breaking the ice, answering any questions you might have, and setting the stage for what’s to come. I want you to know that your photo session will not only be comfortable but also fun and easy. Every photographer is different, and I want you to feel at ease with me from the very beginning.
One of my favorite parts of being a photographer in the small town of Morganton North Carolina is how quickly I get to form these personal connections. It's a reminder that even in the busiest moments, there’s always a chance to connect on a deeper level.
A perfect example of this happened just a few months ago. I received an inquiry for a couple/family session from a sweet girl who was coming into town with her boyfriend to visit his family. She lived out of town, and we were planning the session for the following month. I reached out as usual, we went over the details, and I was excited to photograph them.
But here’s where things get interesting.
The day of the shoot, I was stopping by my husband’s coffee shop to grab a quick coffee before heading to the location. He had recently taken over the shop from a family friend, so it was a great chance to catch up with him and say hello. While I was there, I bumped into a friend from my teenage years—someone who had worked at that very coffee shop with me years ago. She had moved to South Africa and was back for the holidays visiting her family.
She ran up to me, excitedly exclaiming that I was taking her photo later that day. Naturally, I was confused. The session I had scheduled was with a girl from Florida I had never met, not someone I already knew. But then she explained: the sweet girl who had reached out to me was actually her brother’s girlfriend. The girlfriend had no idea that I knew that family until she mentioned my name to my friend that day.
It’s moments like this that make me so thankful to live in a small town. I love that I can run into friends at the grocery store, or end up spending an afternoon with old friends I didn’t expect to see. Just last summer, my husband and I took a quiet trip to the lake, and by the time we left, we found ourselves hanging out with a whole group of friends who just happened to be there too. That’s the beauty of a close-knit community.
Sure, small towns don’t have all the amenities of big cities, but they have something equally special: that sense of connection, of serendipitous encounters, and the ability to weave together relationships in ways you never expect.
So, whether you’re from a small town or a big city, know that when you book a session with me, you’re not just booking a photographer. You’re joining a community where you’ll be welcomed, taken care of, and where every session is made to feel like a personal experience.
I can’t wait to connect with you soon!
